Day 1

Bulla Regia - Thugga

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Tunis or Hammamet and drive you to Thugga/Dougga which is considered the best preserved example of an African-Roman town in North Africa. As such, it is an exceptional illustration of what daily life was like in Antiquity. We'll do a short stop at an Andalusian village for cheese tasting. Freshly prepared lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

Bulla Regia was a Roman, Punic and Berber town and its surviving ruins contain a forum, a basilica and a cathedral. The archaeological site is noted for its domestic architecture constructed below ground, a protection from the fierce heat and effects of the sun. Many of the mosaic floors have been left in place, others may be seen at the The National Bardo Museum in Tunis. There is also a small museum connected with the site. Our day will conclude with a drop off at your location in Tunis or Hammamet. We hope you've had a pleasant day with us!
